Uma-Maheshwara or Shiva-Parvati enthroned together, are the vision of sacredness, auspiciousness, and bliss in the Universe, a symbol of the balance of all energies and a seamless flow of the Samsara. This wooden statue of Shiva-Shakti, popularly known in traditional Indian art as “Uma-Mahesh murti”, is a classic icon of the divine duo, preserved in the iconography of ancient Shaiva shrines.
On boulders that represent the mountainous region of Kailasha, Shiva sits with Uma-Parvati in his lap. The stillness in his pose and expressions is contrasted by the gracefulness in Uma, who like a supple flower is held by Shiva.
