Devi Bhadrakali is one of the most worshipped and revered forms of Devi among the worshippers of Shakti. She is a very fierce and vibrant deity who is said to grant her devotees with ultimate liberation.
The origin of the goddess differs across various scriptures. But as per the most popular account, the fearless goddess was born out of the third eye of Shiva, to slay the demon Darika, who wreaked havoc on innocent beings.
Fulfilling her purpose, the goddess slew Darika and once again, marked the victory of good over evil. Since then, her devotees worship her as a protector against evil. Devi Bhadrakali is also said to have a very motherly affection towards her devotees and bestows them with the greatest blessings.
This beautiful bronze statue illustrates the Devi in her fierce form yet enchanting grandeur. Made using the ancient Madhuchista Vidhana technique, Devi has been brought to life by the brilliant craftsmen of Swamimalai. Devi is standing with utmost grace on an upturned lotus pedestal having delicate carvings.
The 18 armed goddess is blessing with her 2 front hands while the rest 16 hands are holding various weapons. Devi has been adorned in beautiful clothes and exquisite pieces of jewellery. The crown of the Devi is unique and adds another level of beauty to the statue. The face of the Devi is perfectly silent and still.
A beautiful balance has been struck between the warrior and motherly nature of the goddess in this statue. While she appears ever ready for a war against evil, she looks equally caring for her child-like devotees. This statue is a perfect representation of Devi Bhadrakali in her almighty glory
