The companionship of Radha-Krishna is the subject of Indian lore and art to this day. Few things capture the Indian imagination as well as the togetherness of this amorous couple.
Despite the plethora of Vrindavan gopiyan smitten by His charms, it is Radha who is the love of Lord Krishna. In this composition they are shown together engaged in a ritual of dance and music.
The tribhang murari-roopa of the Lord, indicative of His form jutting out (bhang) in three (tri) places, is making divine music that His Radha dances to.
She is dressed in a short ghagra that reveal the dexterous stepping of Her ghungroo-ed limbs, and a dupatta that flows about Her as She motions. As Her Krishna keeps in step with Her, He falls more and more in love with Her.
The level of detail projected onto the brass composition is superb. Their respective composures of countenance are of sheer ananda (bliss) to be in each other's company. The lifelike drape of the silks that clothe them, the ample shringar that graces their persons. The towering buns atop their heads, His held in place with a peacock feather as is the norm in His iconography, Hers with streams of gold.
There is no mistaking the dynamic stance of the figurines. From Krishna's neck tilted graciously in the direction of His dancing lover and the smooth musculature of His contorted torso, to Radha's stance caught amidst graceful motion. The pedestal they are on is a wider version of the traditional inverted lotus pedestal, placed on a quadrilateral block engraved with lotus petals.
