A bust of the all-powerful Devi Renuka, made from a solid cast and finished with perfectly symmetrical detail. The word Renuka refers to the finest particle of sand and refers to Her yogic prowess of conjuring unbaked yet perfectly functional pots from the sands on the banks of the Malaprabha.
The Devi Renuka cast that you see on this page depicts Her straight-gazed beauty. It is set off by a crown and danglers, in keeping with traditional Devi iconography, and layers upon layers of necklaces upon Her bust. At the base of the composition is a coiled up snake of miniature proportions, a reference to Her yogic accomplishments.
Married to Sage Jamdagni and mother of Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu, the yogic prowess of Devi Renuka is indisputable. Rays of the resplendent sun form a halo behind Her head. The leaf-like serrations on those pointed rays are reminiscent of the wilderness Ramshrung that was Her marital home.
