Nataraja, the cosmic dancer, epitomises divine ecstasy in this mesmerising spectacle. Encircled by tongues of fire, Nataraja, “the Lord of Dance”, stands upon a lotus, gracefully balancing on one leg while subduing a demon beneath. His dance is a symphony of energy, illustrated by whirling hair cascading like strands of a cosmic fan. In his upper hands, a Damaru (Udukai) beats the rhythm of creation, while flames symbolise the dual forces of genesis and dissolution.
A cobra winds around his arm, his palm extending in the Abhaya Mudra, granting fearlessness. The bent lower hand, crossing his chest, signifies peace and salvation, unveiling a divine narrative in the pulsating rhythm of Nataraja’s cosmic dance. This statue, crafted in Panchaloha Bronze from Swamimalai, using the ancient “Madhuchista Vidhana (Lost-Wax) technique”, encapsulates the cosmic dance, an eternal ebb and flow of creation, preservation, and dissolution.
