Home, also called havana, is the name given to the votive ritual of the Hindu grihastha (householder). It involves a sacrificial fire, which is lit within a vessel known as the kunda. The lustrous brass composition that you see on this page is a havana-kunda. It has an unassuming quadrilateral shape and features three tiers, which is a sacred number.
The ritual involves pouring ghee, milk, seeds, and incense Into the sacrificial fire lit within the kunda. These elements are of particular significance to the householder; and, as votive offerings, they make a spiritually significant statement of detachment va tyaga (sacrifice).
Sculpted from pure brass, this kunda bears a high-lustre finish. There is a hint of visible texture on the body of the kunda, once you zoom in on the image. A havana-kunda such as this one is indispensable to the duteous householder, irrespective of whether one wants to conduct a private, home ritual or a pooja and/or wedding on a grand scale.
