In whom lies the concentrated powers of all the Devas combined, Devi Durga whose Simha\Singha-Vahini (rides a lion) is the primordial cosmic energy - Shakti. Waging battle against the shape-shifting buffalo demon - Mahishasura, Devi in all her fury strikes at the demon to slay it with the thrust of her Trishula as Dashambhujadharini - at whose feet lies the slain body of evil principles, she came to be known as Mahishasur-Mardini for the same reason. In the bent of Tribhanga, she’s reminder to the fact that nothing is dainty about the fierce divine feminine.
