Lord Murugan's Vel is supposed to be a gift from his mother, Goddess Parvati. The Tripundra sign on the head of this bronze Vel depicts the combined blessings of Shiva and Shakti given to their beloved son. There is a beautiful Kalash on which a lotus is placed and the Vel head stands on top of this arrangement signifying the sacred properties of the weapon. The Vel has been a symbol of grandeur and strength since Lord Murugan led the army of Gods that vanquished innumerable demons to establish Dharma. Lord Murugan's followers have immense faith in the vel because they consider it to be his surrogate.
