14" Lord Ganesha in Sitting Brass Statue from Nepal

$2025
Only 1 available

Ganesha, the elephant-headed deity, is the offspring of Shiva, one of Hinduism's paramount deities, and Parvati, the goddess. He enjoys widespread veneration as the remover of obstacles and the bestower of prosperity, good fortune, and well-being. Additionally, he holds the role of patron for the arts and writing in both Hindu and Buddhist traditions.

Ganesha's multiple arms signify his possession of numerous superhuman powers. With four arms, he would typically grasp various attributes, such as a bowl of sweets in his lower left hand, which his trunk often extends to partake in. His upper right hand would clasp a weapon, like an ax symbolizing the severance of ignorance. In his lower right hand, he would usually hold a broken tusk, a reference to the Hindu legend recounting how Ganesha sacrificed his tusk to continue transcribing the Mahabharata epic after his quill broke. There is also a snake encircling Ganesha's torso and a third eye on his forehead, emblematic connections to his father, Shiva
