13" Buddhist Lord Kubera Idol from Nepal | Copper Statue Gilded with Gold

$1320
Only 1 available

Kubera or Jambhala in Buddhist tradition is a warrior king and protector of the North, who bestows worldly treasures on his devotees. His protective and fierce gaze guards the people of the Himalayan region from disasters of daily and spiritual life. This beautiful copper statue from Nepal presents Lord of North, Kubera in his characteristic form, sitting on a lotus throne in the royal Maharajalalisana, extending one leg forward, placed on a smaller lotus. He wears an ornate crown with floral and conch motifs, earrings, beaded necklaces, waistcloth, and a dhoti highlighted by the rustic hue of brown and gold outlines.

The expressions of Kubera are animated by his large eyes, with hints of red, extended eyebrows, and mustache with brilliant red lips. In his right hand, he holds a conch and, in his left, he has the mongoose who spits jewels, creating a miniature hill of gems on the lotus throne. Another conch is placed in front of Kubera’s extended foot. Shankha or conch is a symbol of auspiciousness in Buddhism, also used as a representative of Kubera’s wife, whose residence was the ocean, where conches are found in abundance.
