Devi Mariamman is the guardian deity of the South Indian farmer. She is the divine harbinger of rain and nourishment, a spiritual precursor to the biannual fertilisation of crops all across the Deccan plateau and South of the Vindhyas.
The Mariamman murti that you see on this page is one-third plinth. Carved in keeping with traditional aesthetics, featuring an upturned lotus on a lotus petal-engraved quadrilateral tier. Devi Mariamman’s ornate crown preoccupies a significant fraction of the remaining stature.
Together with the pure, lustrous bronze make and the style of attire and adornment, this chaturbhujadharini Mariamman is a fine example of traditional South Indian iconography. She would bring life and prosperity to any space where She is installed, be it your home or office temple.
