In this ethereal masterpiece, Lord Ayyappan, “also called ‘Dharmasastha’ and ‘Manikandan’, born of celestial union of Lord Shiva and Mohini (the incarnation of Lord Vishnu), graces the cosmos in a breathtaking tableau. Seated on a lotus pedestal affixed to the “Kirtimukha throne”, Lord Ayyappan, “a handsome celibate (Bhramachari)”, assumes the divine “Yoga Asana”. Adorned regally, Ayyappan wears armlets, necklaces, and a regal crown, his attire embodying majestic grace. A fragrant garland of Jasmine, Rose, and Marigold drapes his neck, a symphony of aromas enveloping him.
His right hand, poised in “Chin-Mudra”, symbolises supreme wisdom and enlightenment, while the left, in “Danda Hasta”, emanates authority. The Yoga Patta (the sacred belt) around his legs marks his sacred domain. Crafted from Panchaloha bronze using the ancient “Madhuchista Vidhana (Lost-Wax) technique”, this artwork embodies the union of cosmic energies, his presence an ode to divine harmony and transcendence.
