12'' Fluting Krishna Panchaloha Bronze Statue | Madhuchista Vidhana (Lost-Wax) | Panchaloha Bronze from Swamimalai

$380
Only 1 available

In this bronze rendition, Lord Krishna, “also known as Muralidhar”, stands poised on a lotus pedestal in the Natvar Asana, a celestial dancer in the cosmic ballet. His regal attire drapes him in divine splendour, a “Karanda Mukut” adorned with a peacock feather crowns his godly countenance. Eyes closed, He enchants the universe with the mellifluous melody of his flute, a symphony that transcends mortal comprehension. When Krishna plays the flute, it symbolises the cosmic dance of creation, an invitation for souls to unite with the divine rhythm. Worshipping this form brings serenity, spiritual harmony, and an awakening to the eternal dance of existence.

This lost-wax figure of the supreme Gopala, or protector of the cows – Krishna here is shown in a splendid manner, relaxed in the ‘padavastika’ posture which exudes a sense of tranquillity and benevolence. For the chief herdsman, whose life has been spread across the Mahabharata, Bhagavata Purana, Brahma Vaivarta Purana, Bhagavad Gita, and the Krishna Leela, this bronze image shows him not only as a supreme being but the god-child prankster that was the heartthrob of every ‘gopi,’ most famously Radha. The eighth incarnation of Vishnu is dressed in a modest yet divine manner, with an elaborate ‘alankara’ or ornament spread across his body. His royal ‘mukuta’ carries the image of a snake – an allusion to Kaliya, the venomous ‘naga’ that Krishna defeated in the Yamuna River near Vrindavan. A major component (albeit absent in this image) is Krishna holding his flute. The instrument not only stands for the melody that attracts ‘gopis’ to his affable antics, but is presented itself as a vessel of love, its hollowness allowing the God of love to fill it with divinity. In a similar vein, the peacock’s feathers present over his body signify beauty and knowledge. This Swamimalai work, covered in a layer of green patina and raised on a high plinth, has a similar variation in brass, found here.
