The first-revered, Lord of Auspiciousness, Sri Ganesha in the iconography of Chola bronzes, has forever been a divine icon. In this bronze statute, the son of Uma appears in a regal mood, in the Maharajalilasana, holding Paasha (noose), Ankusha (goad), his broken tusk (which got him the epithet- Ekdanta or single-tusked one), and Modaka. Ganesha wears a Karandamukuta or inverted-basket-shaped crown, a serpent as his belly belt, and holds a Purnaghata or pot of fortune in his curving trunk. A splendid aureole surrounds Sri Ganesha, adding to the grandeur of the Panchaloha statute, which is home to the sacred aura of Ganapati.
