Mahadeva, who resides in the snow-capped valleys of the Himalayas, is a mighty deity in the Hindu culture of Nepal, the home of the mountains. This divine brass statue from Nepal represents the Adiyogi (primordial ascetic) immersed in Yoga, the supreme image of cosmic wisdom and prowess.
On a pedestal that is shaped like an inverted basket, Shiva’s mat of tiger skin, with the roaring face of the beast visible in the front, is laid. In Padmasana, the meditative pose, Shiva is depicted with his hair in a Jata adorned by the crescent moon, round earrings, serpent ornaments, and dhoti.
