Lord Anjaneyar also known as Hanuman and an ardent devotee of Lord Rama, is a prominent deity in Hinduism. Lord Anjaneyar is regarded as the personification of fidelity, fortitude, and loyalty. He is shown as a muscular, monkey-faced god, signifying his enormous might. In this sculpture, he has been portrayed carrying a mace in his right hand, symbolising self-sovereignty, authority of governance, and power to rule. While his left hand is carrying Sanjivani (the mountain of medicine), symbolising his devotion.
The statue displays the craftsmanship of Mahabalipuram, which is renowned for its historic stone sculptures.
