There is no disputing the warrior-like qualities of Lord Hanuman. Without Him, Mother Seeta would never have been rescued and the asura kingdom vanquished. Indispensable to Rama-Lakshmana, He is known to this day for His unflinching bhakti (unconditional love) to the prince of Ayodhya and the cause of dharma. The sculpture that you see on this page depicts this glorious warrior in the midst of the battlefield between India and Lanka.
On a marble plinth with stylised frontal corners squats the Lord Hanuman. The right knee is touching the ground beneath Him. With the left hand He seizes the end of His flourishing tail as if to prevent it from getting in the way. With the right hand He raises the gada high above His head, aiming to bring it down with all the force of His arms on adharma. From the undulations of His dynamic musculature to the determined, almost calm, composure of countenance, the artisan clearly has an expressive way with the chisel and hammer.
The turquoise girdle at the hip of Hanuman brings out the pristine quality of His complexion. But for these two colours, there is ample gold in His adornments - necklaces, amulets, anklets, and crown. The crown and the gada of Lord Hanuman have been finished with especial attention to detail. Note the gradient of soft colours on His face, which add to it a lifelike quality.
How to clean and maintain marble statues?
Marble has been a preferred material for sculptors and artists for more than a thousand years. It is a rock that undergoes metamorphism which causes recrystallization of the original carbonate mineral grains. Marble comes in various colors, designs, and dimensions. Pure white marble is the most preferred type of marble for making sculptures and statues since time immemorial. White marble is especially used for sculpting stone monumental sculptures since ancient times. The natural shine and luster of the carbonate crystals of white marble give a lavish and beautiful appearance to the statue.
Marble stone statues are highly durable and can even withstand harsh weather conditions without getting corroded, therefore, they can be kept indoors or outdoors without getting damaged or weathered. Although these statues can last for many decades, their regular care and cleaning are essential to increase their longevity and beautiful appearance.
Marble statues need periodical cleaning to maintain their flawless look. However, harsh and deep cleaning can result in making the statue look dull. If your marble statue is withering away, it is recommended to take the help of a professional cleaner. Marble is a delicate material and therefore needs proper care.
