Widely worshipped in Dravidian India is Lord Karttikeya or Subramanya. Son of Shiva-Parvati and the presiding deity over war, Karttikeya is admired for His great personal beauty and strength and valour. The Karttikeya bronze that you see on this page depicts Him in the company of His vahana, the beauteous peacock.
A stately bronze figurine of Karttikeya or Subramanya. In the posterior left hand of the chaturbhujadhari is a trishoola, indicative of His parentage. Beneath a tall, tapering crown is a face etched with visually indulgent lines.
In addition to the above, the pedestal beneath Karttikeya’s feet betrays the authenticity of the bronze. On a quadrilateral engraved with lotus petals is an upturned lotus bloom of gigantic proportions. Its pistil cradles the feet of divinity.
