Bhumisparsha Mudra signifies the Lord Buddha’s enlightenment when he called earth to witness his state of awakening.
It reflects his unflinching firmness during the pursuit of enlightenment while doing meditation beneath the Bodhi tree.
Buddha was troubled by Dem on Mara and his daughters as they asked him to produce a witness who could attest to Buddha’s awakening.
On hearing this Buddha reached out to earth with his right hand, it is believed that earth roared and gave the witness. Demon Mara too disappeared after hearing the deafening roar of earth.
