Womanhood | Acrylic on Canvas | By Purnima Dabholkar

$4000
Only 1 available

“A warrior

Self-tamed,

A goddess,

Self-evaluated.

A soldier,

Self-taught

A carer,

Self-motivated.

A friend,

Self-moved,

A leader,

Selfless.”

Excelling in every role and braving time, society, and self, a woman is the pinnacle of strength and beauty. So much so, that the first ever worshipped images in every culture belong to “Mother goddesses”. With two dark-skinned women as its subject, this acrylic on canvas breaks the conventional definitions of womanhood and beauty, as a celebration of the average female, who endures life, with the gentleness of a flower and the strength of a river.

Both the women are adorned with lovely traditional ornaments inspired by Marathi and South Indian trousseau and are attired in red and green- colors of the divine feminine, synonymous with beauty, auspiciousness, and fortune. The appealing features of the women have been accentuated with kohl and lip color, giving an unabashed feminine appeal to them. Instead of the traditional bashful feminine figure, seen as the symbol of womanhood, the two women gaze directly at the onlooker, meeting their eyes with an animated look.

Embodying drama and liveliness, the women do not exist on the canvas for the voyeur, but for the connoisseur of true beauty, one who admires the unparalleled charm of womanhood.
