An unassuming countryside dwelling. A view of the back: no doors, only solid walls punctuated by tiny barred windows. Along the upper floor, a verandah with a sloping roof that lets in just enough sunlight for pleasure and peace.
Gentle overgrowth all over the roof and part of the wall, even along the outhouse land. This kind of shrubbery is a common feature of the Indian countryside, where homes are constructed and maintained with natural materials such as earth and cowdung.
In the foreground, an ox-drawn cart. It had probably been taken to the city in the morning and worked all day; and now the oxen have been ushered into the shed. Its straight lines and clean angles add to the sense of harmony emanating from this painting.
