A small village is the theme, solitude, the milieu and aesthetic, the essence of this batik work. The craftsman apparently did not want to depict the hustle-bustle of day to day life, so he chose the night time for it. The bank of the river supports dense vegetation. Hence, the major colours used are blue and green. In between the two, the land has sparsely distributed huts. And since its night time, there's a couple here and a couple there - otherwise bereft of people. The artist seems to have wanted the concentrated attention of the viewer on the natural beauty. Too many people or animals meant diverting their attention. Nevertheless, the huts still attract with the yellow thatched roofs and red tiled ones. The tall palm trees try to kiss the sky and bend sideways as their efforts fail. One boat is moored in the distance as another boatman brings his boat to the shore and calls it a day.
This large batik work spells serenity in capital words. The cool blue and green are refreshingly interspersed with warm yellow and red.
