In ancient Indian times, the most beautiful and skilled women artists were the royal dancers, who performed in the court and earned endless accolades and riches. These dancers lived in their mansions, where among other things they took younger girls under their wing and trained them as future Naratakis (dancers). This oil painting brings to you a leisurely scene of a royal Nartaki dressed stunningly, in conversation with a young and rather mesmerized girl, in the process of teaching her the art of music and dance.
