Gita Govinda is a romantic work of unsurpassed beauty and unmatched elegance between Radha and Krishna. The 'earthy' love of Radha and Krishna has been described in poetry and paintings ever since.

In an ambience that compliments the budding romance between Radha and Krishna, they are seated – she mesmerized by the sound of Krishna's flute. He knows how to tug at his beloved's heart. Radha's tall lissome body is dressed in an elegant skirt, choli and a transparent odhini. Her delicate features are delightfully portrayed and the exquisite ornaments add to her beauty. The blue-bodied Krishna wears his usual pitamber (yellow) lower garment, a garland of wild flowers and an elaborate headgear. Together, they sit on a raised platform surrounded the serene quietude. The foreground has an artificial pond with lotus leaves and flowers floating in it. A couple of peacocks strut around them proudly. A thick cluster of trees is painted within the architectural boundary. The lush green extends beyond the walls. The setting sun carries various hues, prettily patterned by curly clouds.

The entire painting is poetry in colour.
