The dasa Mahavidyas appear to be ten (‘dasa’) distinct deities. However, they are the ten aspects into which the singular Mahadevi is resolved. The composite painting that you see on this page depicts each of the Mahavidyas in all their beauty and uniqueness of iconography. The uppermost panel is the widest of the lot and depicts Shree Kali (inscribed above) in Her wrathful stance in a crematorium.

Clockwise from the left of the second row of panels, with each of the names inscribed in Devanagari above, the Mahavidyas are Shree Vidya, Bhuvaneshvari, Tara, Chhinnamasta, Dhumavati, Matangi, Tripurasundari, Bagulamukhi, and Mahalakshmi. Some of them project serenity and harmony (Tripurasundari, Matangi), while some are pictures of violence and restlessness (Bagulamukhi, Chhinamasta). Some have gigantic lotus blooms for thrones (Mahalakshmi, Tara), while some are poised upon signature aspects of their iconography (Chhinamasta, Dhumavati).

Each panel has been infused with a great degree of precision and perfection. Balanced tones of colour, elegant cloud-and-verdure motifs that add depth to the panels. Despite the scale, the iconography of each Mahavidya has been faithfully and flawlessly reproduced in this contemporary ensemble.
