The Taj Mahal represented the culmination of an essential Indian synthesis. In architectural terms, the predominant strand is unquestionably Persian & the master craftsmen Hindu, but synthesis is so complete so utterly harmonious that to separate one strand from the other would be meaningless.

Shah Jahan love for his wife is unquestionable. He was stricken with grief when she was taken ill during childbirth .She died in his arms while he gazed into her fading eyes .He decided to build a befitting 'rauza' for the deceased empress. Out of his inspirations came the Taj - the perfection of architectural form & excellence of decoration.

On a raised platform, in the center of the four minarets is the Taj; surrounded by an almost occult mystique. In the foreground is the axial water channel, surrounding which are gardens past of the char-bagh which is divided into four large quarters. Seen as a whole, Taj appears as an orchestration of three integrally related elements the environment, in which the water and the sky are the main components, the charbagh & the tomb itself standing ethereally between the two. The artist's efforts bring into focus the molding & soft contours of a magic monument.

The Taj belongs to an age of grandeur that is past, but it also belong to the present - to the innumerable visitors who come to pay homage to this fantastic symbol of undying love.
