Indian art has been acclaimed by scholars as religious in nature but sensuous in feeling. Rasikpriya is an ornamental text on the literary rhetoric of love poetry and on the classification of loves, love situation and lovers. Based on this text, the painters in all ages have, have illustrated the life stories of Radha and Krishna.

This batik work, accomplished with a lot of effort and skill, has an emotional feel to it. What the couple feels here are emotions intensely and passionately human. Krishna whose love for Radha is no secret, is not happy at the short time that Radha has spent with him. The latter feels it was long enough and wishes to leave. Krishna hold the edges of her green odhini in a bid to delay her. Radha tugs at it to free it from his hold. Krishna seated on his bent legs surrounded by big and small bolsters is aware that he will have to use more persuasive power. He will be able to halt Radha, as he has done so many times in the past.

The artist's intention was to make the work as colourful as the theme itself. Krishna, instead of his usual yellow lower garment, wears a red one to match Radha's long skirt. His crown is jewel encrusted and he himself wears many ornaments. Radha also wears attractive jewellery. Though ready to leave, desire lingers in her down cast eyes. An exquisite love story with spiritual connotations.
