The glorious Tanjore painting that you see here portrays the All-Attractive Lord Krishna’s pleasing bodily features. He is the possessor and source of all six opulence i.e. fame, power, beauty, wisdom, wealth and renunciation. His beauty excels even that of the thousands of cupids altogether. All the gopis of Vrindavan always remained eager to see the ever-youthful body of Krishna. Although He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He appeared in the form of a simple cowherd boy in order to reciprocate unconditional love between Him and His beloved devotees. By a mere glance of the Lord, the inhabitants of Vrindavan would forget all their sufferings and enter into the state of trance. There is no truth other than Krishna and there is no goal of the living entities other than Krishna.
Having a fair body complexion with a purple hue, Lord Krishna appears just like the fresh beautiful monsoon clouds. He stands on an elevated platform and a bright yellow dhoti with many perfect pleats is wrapped around His legs down to His ankles. A dupatta and a flower garland are worn around His strong shoulders. He elegantly places both His hands on His curvaceous waist, holding His divine flute that pleases everyone in His right hand. The long and beautiful necklaces adorn His bare chest and a peacock feather adorns His head. The blissful Lord Krishna slightly tilts His delicate neck and brings a soft smile on His moonlike face which is even sweeter than honey. Whoever sees Krishna, sees an eternal festival that brings joy to the soul because we all are His part and parcel. This painting has been elaborately embellished with pure gold work inlaid over the icon of Lord Krishna. This is the characteristic feature of Tanjore style artwork which adds a special magic to the entire look and makes it stand out from the ordinary paintings.
