Visual art flourished in Punjab under royal patronage. It is noteworthy that not only the royal class, but every chieftain, big or small, had his portrait executed by the artists and considered it as the highest honour.

Dressed in the battle finery of those times, is this Sikh with a flowing beard and upturned moustaches. The clear eyes gazing at the painter and a smiling expression believe his profession. He holds one sword upright in his left hand while his right hand reaches out towards the hilt of that tucked at his waist. Various bands go criss-cross over his chest. He wears a yellow vest, topped by a blue coat. The turban also of the same color combination, is of the color of the 'Khalsa', a band of army men trained under the tenth Guru of the Sikhs.

As much as there is refinement in the features, the artist falters at the modeling of hands and feet, or that more than one artist was involved in painting this portrait.
