The night brings a hush upon the village as the people tuck themselves into their beds. Outside their homes, the moon filters in beautifully through the thick canopy of trees. The wildlife is behaving strangely—the nocturnal animals asleep and the peacocks and geese awake and making noise.
On the banks of river Yamuna, a boat full of love and devotion stands as Shri Krishna, his beloved Radha, and the gopis board it, ready to row their way through the cool waters. Lord Krishna plays the flute for the gathered ladies who loved him with all their hearts, it sounds sweet and melodious. Radha lays down on the wooden boat, head cushioned in the Lord’s lap. Theirs is a love story that is the most divine, one built on trust and utter devotion. The gopis sit around them, settling in the depths of Yamuna or playing instruments. They sit contentedly in the company of the Lord, grateful to be near him. This is a scene that is almost a daily occurrence in the village, where Krishna sits with gopis as long as he wishes. Lord Krishna is known as the perfect lover, as depicted in this Tanjore painting that reveals the pastimes of Krishna during his time in Vrindavan.
