The divine nurtures and protectors of Devas (gods), Manushya (humans), and all other life forms, the king and queen of Kailasha and Brahma’s universe, Shiva and Parvati are approached by divine beings at their abode, offering them reverence. In the visual language of Mewar School of Art, the watercolor painting depicts Shiva and Parvati in the green embrace of Kailash, where Shiva sits on his Baaghacharma (tiger hide) asana and Parvati on a pink lotus, engaged in an interaction. Ganga, sprouting from the Jata of Shiva, flows in the foreground, adding a hint of movement to the image.
Nandi and Devi’s tiger sit guarding the sacred space, along with Narada, Mushaka (Ganesha’s mount), Ganesha with a fly whisk, Mayura and Shadamukha (six-headed) Karttikeya, and Bhairava with his dogs. On the horizon, heavenly beings fly with garlands, approaching the snowy court of Shiva, where Mahadeva and Mahadevi reside, exuding auspiciousness and nourishing all beings.
