Lord Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and expands into Mahavishnu who resides in His divine abode Vaikuntha, the place of no miseries. One glance of Krishna takes anyone to His wonderful pastimes of Vrindavan in which He acted as an ordinary child to bless His pure devotees with His causeless mercy and to reciprocate pure and unconditional love between Him and them. Whoever meditates upon His attractive form gets absorbed in the highest form of pleasure because His transcendental form is Sac-cid-ananda ; Eternal, and full of knowledge and bliss. Therefore, all the inhabitants of Vrindavan were always absorbed in the thoughts of Krishna and loved Him with all their hearts. The bright colors and special embellishment with gold coating and studded stones give this painting an aesthetic look.
In this Tanjore style artwork, He is depicted exhibiting His inconceivable potency; He is seated calmly on the coils of Ananta Shesha or Sheshanaag who in the form of Lord Balaram always accompanies Him. His multiple hoods form a huge canopy above Krishna’s head for His protection. Clad in a pitambara (bright yellow) dhoti down to His ankles He sits in lalitasana along with His beloved Mother Yashoda and Mother Rohini who are attired in a beautiful saree. Maa Yashoda offers her sweet child a butterball with love and devotion while Mother Rohini holds a lotus in Her hand and experiences pure bliss. Krishna’s body complexion resembles the color of fresh monsoon clouds ready to pour the water of blessings on His devotees. Two beautiful gopis also accompany Krishna and fan Him with chamar in order to please Him. Wherever there is Krishna, there is an eternal festival and ever-lasting joy.
