The artist has projected this common fisherwoman in such a way that is sensual. There is beauty in her simplicity; tall and lissome, her slender waist is barely visible through the saree which is casually wrapped and tucked at the waist. The blouse is not figure hugging but loose, not to hamper the hard work. Her face is shyly sensual a smile on her lips indicating that she enjoys labour. Few strands have escaped from her well-combed hair, tied in a knot and decorated with a flower. On the head she balances a large basket of fish, the fruit of her labor.
The woman's beauty apart, the artist has executed the composition in a brilliant manner. Keeping his colour palette sober, he uses tones of similar colours to achieve better effects. He has shaded the face so deftly as to lend volume and also retain the naiveté and simplicity of her looks. The background is simple in pale and brown colours, giving the painting a wash appearance
