Vaishnavi- the female counterpart of Vishnu is the second member of the Sapta-Matrikas, one of the several mother-goddess groups venerated in Hinduism. She is dark in complexion, like her beloved Vishnu, and possesses his attributes- conch shell and discus, which he is holding in her hands. Pitambara- the yellow garment worn by Vishnu forms the attire of Vaishnavi, which is complemented by the distinctly Vaishnava Kiritamukuta and exquisite ornaments.
In her role as the Shakti or potency of Vishnu, Vaishnavi is the preserver of the universe and is known as Narayani. With her contribution and support, Vishnu is able to sustain Brahma’s creation. Vaishnavi holds a child in her lap, a sign of her love for the entire universe, which in front of the great mother is like a child.
