Indrani- the third member of the Sapta-matrikas is the consort and power of Devaraja, the king of gods- Indra. Among her other names are Aindreyi and Shachi. She is shown as a youthful goddess, exquisite in appearance. Here Indrani is given a gorgeous yellow skin tone, contrasted and made more appealing by her blue sari.
Seated on an inverted lotus platform, Indrani is the very picture of royalty, fitting for the consort of the king of the gods. She has four arms, in two of which she holds a paash (noose) and Vajra- a weapon made specifically for Indra. The beauty of Indrani in this Pattachitra is enhanced by the vibrant floral patterns used in the background and frame of this painting.
