The popular verse of Ramayana, where Lord Hanuman brought Sanjeevani booti (herb), grown on mount Dronagiri to save Lakshmana from the deadly wound of Indrajit, is pictured in this Batik painting using the unique and complex technique of wax-dyeing resist; painted using tamarind pens or twigs with the help of naturally derived colors of the palette. The background blended with brown, white and black brush strokes in a vertical direction represents the powerful waves of the divine gods and goddesses of the universe, blessing Hanuman for his bravery, devotion and truthfulness.

The position of his legs and that of his tail represents Lord Hanuman’s flight in motion; attired in gracious clothes of unique color combinations and carrying his weapon, gada, to powerfully face the evils that come in between his bhakti and goal. The shining sanjeevani herb in his left hand is painted in realistic magical skills of the painter.

Keeping in view even the minutest details of Hanuman’s face structure, natural expression of his eyes, beautiful accessories, the abrupt ascending strokes representing his fast speed and the direction of his movement, the vertical flower strands and the flowery temple frame, the painter has skilfully portrayed his deep thoughts into a one of a kind masterpiece.
