As a country, Nepal has many quirks. It is a purely mountain settlement. Nestled in the Himalayas, the Nepalese grows up breathing the sacred air and drinking the sacred waters. It is no wonder that it is abound with temples and stoopas, and visited by numerous pilgrims at all times of the year.
The oil painting that you see on this page captures the essence of Nepal. It is a composite of multiple elements that are considered hallmarks of Nepalese culture. To the left of the canvas is the mildly wrathful devimukhamandala with Her brow smeared in vermillion.
To the right, a pristine stoopa with a golden top, amidst a sea of colourful om-mani-padme-hm streamers. In the middle are the Changu Narayan templetops with pilgrims queueing up front, and above a view of the upper Himalayan range glittering like a jewel in the rays of the setting sun.
