This highly expressive painting portrays the event of Jesus Christ rising from his grave three days after his crucification. As has been acclaimed by the Christian tradition and contain the New Testament and the Gospels of St. Paul and St. John, the entire earth and all her creatures and nature, after Jesus had been crucified and entombed, began experiencing God's ire. There was water but it did not quench thirst, the food rot, the sun was icy cold and the moon burnt with parching heat. Eyes had lost their sleep, flowers their smile and fragrance and winds their soothing touch. The guilty were doomed and the innocent had tears shedding from their eyes and purging them. Everybody realised that the Prophet had been wronged and sinned against. Penitence grappled every mind, sense and soul and they all miserably prayed Jesus to be compassionate to them, the sinner and guilty, and forgive them. It is said that God's wrath prevailed till the third day, and the third day Jesus rose from his tomb and pardoned all penitents. The event has been defined in Christian tradition as Resurrection, though in metaphysical or biological contemplations, in an endeavour to render it more logical and scientific as against its legendary character, the Resurrection theory has been further widened. But it has always been the legend and not metaphysics that has consituted the theme of visual arts as in the painting here.
