A majority of them speak of his humanitarianism that enabled him to pardon his foes; and by his dignified behaviour and considerate treatment, he won their love and respect. Though Maharaja Ranjit Singh was a Sikh, his government was not a theocracy. It was secular in administration and action.

That he had lost one eye to illness was of little consequence. Despite the regalia, the portrait is painted in subdued hues, yet in all splendour!.
