When asked what inspired her to draw this mesmerizing acrylic on canvas, Avani Mayank Desai shared a tale of Krishna, who was asked why He and Sri Radha are not married. Sri Krishna replied smilingly that marriage happens between two people. He and Radha are not two, but one, a single being and soul, who do not require to be tied in worldly bonds. A delicate and aesthetically charming celebration of the Prema of Radha Krishna which is beyond this world, the painting “Radha-Madhav” depicts the duo embracing each other, on the banks of Yamuna, surrounded by a celestial tranquility. White lotuses, the symbols of purity bloom in the foreground of the painting.
Against the backdrop of vegetation that blooms nourished by their presence, Radha and Krishna appear immersed in the sweetness of each other. The cloth of Krishna’s beautiful red pagdi (headgear) sways over the stairs, bringing a dramatic splash of color to the canvas. Mandalas that represent the cosmos and time are painted with faint brush and deep colors on the left side, the upper section on the stair, and in the foreground, surrounding Radha Krishna in their profound symbolism, and reiterating their love that is beyond cosmic rules and time.
