In Guler, an altogether gentle art evolved from the Mughal style, combining Mughal elements with local features. What is really charming about them is their pure and delicate colour, the firm, unswerving flow of their line and confidence in painting.

Landscape seems to be an essential part of this composition. The painter has exhibited the richness of the tropical gardens and woodlands with much delight. The plantains and trees laden with leaves, form the entire background, concealing the brown skins and the clouds in its richness. Amidst various colours of green are a few colourful birds, hanging playfully on the branches, their chirping enhancing the mood of the painting. The foreground has small trees and shrubs and the entire ground is strewn with flowers. Partially seen is a lotus pond with buds exposing their subtle beauty.

The scene of action is the village well where a weary nobleman stops for a drink of water. His turban with a plume, his jewellery, his rich jama and the elaborate waistband bears testimony that he belongs to the royal court. The bedecked steeds of a good breed strengthen the fact. The village belle in ghagra choli, decorated in necklaces, earrings etc. provides water to the traveller. That they are looking into each others eyes gives a romantic angle to this beautifully executed miniature.
