Length : 10-14 mm
Recognition marks : Pitchy Brown; thorax has dull yellow margins, the convex disl roseate with a central black spot; elytra have pale suture and narrow side margins. The light organs are always larger in the males.
Habitat : Adults predaceous; larvae luminescent and predaceous.
Distribition : Throughout Eastern North America.
Note : Firefly light is produced by a mixture of chemicals similar to enzymes, resulting in "cold" light, that is, a chemical reaction that produces nearly all light and very little heat.
