Against the midnight blue sky, in contrast to the darkness of the night, sits Goddess Lakshmi in one of her most revered incarnations, Gajalakshmi. Her seat upon the pedestal is cushioned by the lotus flower that she perches upon. Two white elephants flank her, trunks held majestically above her, ready to lustrate her with water. She is dressed in a brilliant red saree, accentuated by the embossed golden borders and jewellery. She sits in padamasma, holding two lotuses in her upper hands while the lower hands are in Abhaya and varadamudra.
The lotuses are a symbol of her divine perfection, fertility, purity and compassion. From the pot of gold in her lap, a steady stream of gold coins flows down, a sign of the goddess of wealth blessing her devotees with prosperity. Cushioned by a cerulean blue pillow, she sits benevolently with the complexion of dawn, embraced by a beautiful garland made of blush pink flowers. The emerald drapes above her head are divided in perfect symmetry. As it is always done traditionally, this painting is embedded with a lot of stones of various colours—white, red, and green. There is a hint of two pillars and the beautiful arch of a temple entrance.
