Whatever name you give her, Namgyalma or Ushnisha Vijaya is revered for her power to banish negative karma, particularly that which results from taking a life. Typically represented by three faces, this represents the ability to dissolve obstacles and cure all illnesses in the three realms. Seated on padmasana, symbolizing her purity and enlightenment. She is adorned with five-pointed crowns to represent the wisdom of the Five Dhyani Buddhas.
Her eight arms each hold and represent its meanings, in her first right hand, she holds a double Dorje, which is near her chest, representing total internal and outer harmony. She holds Amitabha Buddha seated on her second right hand; it represents the ability of her devotees to transition from human existence to Buddhahood and indicates that upon death, one would ascend to heaven to live in the pure land of Sukhavati.
Her third right-hand holds an arrow, indicating perspective wisdom that illuminates the ultimate truth. Her fourth right hand is in the supreme generosity mudra. On the other side, her first left-hand holds a vajra lasso, representing her mastery of mind control. On the second left hand, she is holding a bow, representing the great focus to enable the arrow of wisdom to strike its target. As we notice her third left hand is making the mudra of offering protection, while her fourth left hand is holding a long-life vase filled with healing nectar, Ambrosia, Amrit, or the Elixer of immortality.
