The painting depicts a musician and the patron. The artist is comfortably seated and placing the veena in his lap he strums it. He instantly invokes applause. Another veena lying in the foreground suggests that he is here to train the lady. He is immaculately dressed in an ankle length jama and a pearl strung turban. The lady wears a colourful attire and rests against bolsters and cushions. Fruits, nuts and wine are laid out on the carpet. An elaborate lamp holds numerous flames. Everything in the foreground speaks of grandeur. And all that we have talked of occupies the clearly divided lower half.
The other half consists of beauty and grandeur in stone and mortar. Here the architectural elements are employed to indicate and lend depth and direction not only to different segments but to the total composition itself.
The patterns on the wall, the unusual colour palette and the use of golden paint imply that the artist has left no stone unturned to make this painting an extraordinary one!
