The devotional love of Meera for Krishna has been so deeply ingrained in India's religious and cultural fabric, that her Bhajans for Krishna-bhaktas are a musical mantra to attain oneness with the dark-skinned Lord.
The self-surrender of Meera and her unwavering focus on the feet of Krishna has been recreated enchantingly in this acrylic on canvas painting by Arjun Das. On a horizontal canvas, Meerabai takes the left half, wrapped in a vigorous red color, different from the usual muted shades in which she is depicted.
The fiery red, a symbol of Meera's seething Prema for Krishna is smeared all over the canvas, which creates a lovely backdrop for the image of Krishna to appear on the right section, wearing golden ornaments and playing his flute meditatively, appears to be answering the evocations of Meera's stringed instrument.
