Lord Vishnu is the central figure of the 'Hindu Trinity' endowed with the task of sustaining the universe. In literature he is described as the saviour of dharma, righteousness, the universe etc. His ten incarnations and various forms are well known in Hindu literature, and form the subject matter of artists of various media.

Here he is depicted as emerging out of a fish in an ocean. In this Matsya incarnation, Vishnu killed the demon Hayagriva who had stolen the Vedas and restored them to Brahma. Here the Lord can be seen holding the four divine Vedas, one in each of his hands. He is wearing a long and beautiful garland of flowers and his curly hair slips out from his haloed crown falling down to his two shoulders.

The lower part of the painting depicts foamy water and the rest the sky with a similar hue. The fish itself is finely done, with realistic looking scales.

This painting was crated in the city of Kishangarh (Rajasthan). The artist is Shri Manohar Saini.
