The emotion between the two remains the same, the depiction may have local flavour. Baby Krishna is cherubic, restless as he is held by his mother who is trying to calm him. She has adorned her son in necklaces, bracelets, anklets; a delicate belt hangs at his waist; a garland of wild flowers also hangs down his neck. Instead of the flute, the baby holds a blow horn, which is a more popular wind instrument down south. Yashoda wears stone studded gold ornaments but her saree is dull in colour, perhaps for a sober effect. On an oval face rest deep inset eyes, a rounded chin and a small mouth. Nose ornaments decorate the finely shaped nose. Maternal love and tranquility is evident on her face. By her hand gesture, she is trying to focus baby Krishna's attention on some object not shown in the canvas.
The background captures different hues of the setting sun the remain of the golden glow, the grey of the approaching dark. In contrast, the foreground is dark, with the cattle ready for home.
