On a lotus mat sit Radha and Krishna in exquisitely detailed finery and sparkling jewels. The faces are endowed with perfect features arched eyebrows, lotus shaped eyes, aquiline nose and sensuous lips. Radha's modesty and shyness is apparent in her downcast eyes as much as love and affection is apparent in Krishna's eyes resting on Radha. A luminous halo is seen behind their heads. In front of them lies a 'purna kumbh' symbolic of fertility and prosperity.
In the foreground are lotus plants, which appear nodding and swaying in the stream. The luxuriant foliage is a distinguishing feature and seems to engulf the dramatic personae. Depiction of peacocks, pairs of parrots, swans etc. are seen as symbols for physical enchantment.
The night is dark; the moment is quiet and the mood infinitely tender.
