The lovely, straight-gazed Durga. Gold-lidded eyes that could slay, stare unforgivingly through the slightest bit of adharma. The red-rimmed third eye, beneath which a vermillion tattoo. Crimson lips pursed together with determination and perfect symmetry.
The Durga-roopa of Parvati is passionately worshipped in the Eastern Delta region. The angular crown on Her head is a signature element of the regional iconography. So are Her thick, flowing black tresses, framing a long, slender neck. The jewels clasped around it go with the gigantic paisleys dangling from Her lobes.
The backdrop is a riot of splotches of the brush dipped in yellow and charcoal. These sections of the canvas are a contrast to the neat brushstrokes defining the expressive mukhamandala of Durga.
